Momentous Happenstance

Soooooo, the last two days.

On Thursday, we went to Australia Zoo, the very same zoo that the late great Steve 'Crikey' Irwin made into a fabulously successful multi million dollar animal entertainment machine. The place was pretty cool, and seemed to me like a cross between a traditional zoo, and a circus, with well trained birds and reptiles and elephants interacting with the throngs of tourists, who were also treated to some well placed 'help save the planet by not buying dried Rhino penises' talk from the presenters.

I posed with a gigantic replica crocodile; a creature of draconic proportions, which had a sign next to it which surmised that somewhere Out There, crocs did actually get this big, which was big enough to swallow a horse without chewing and pick its teeth with the rider for dessert.
I also fed an elephant, which was totally awesome. Her trunk was very rough and whilst gentle, gave me the impression she could throw me over one shoulder if she didn't like the taste of that rock melon.

Australia Zoo was very cool, and very slickly ran. They push their conservation agenda without ramming it down people's throats, though I did find all the references to Steve Irwin slightly creepy.

Today we took a car ride to the Gold Coast, mainly so Annika could give me the guided tour in advance of us going back for swimming and sun bathing later on, but also so we could check out the fabulously cheap warehouse-priced clothing stores there.

And here I must make my revelation, dear readers. To many of you, this will mean nothing, but I'm preparing to cop no end of hilarity from those who know me best with the following news: I got three black singlets for when it gets really hot.

I'm not quite up to showing photos yet.
