Auld Lang Syne

New Years dinner party was huge success. We kept it fairly low profile since small flat is small, with just a dozen or so people in attendance (and even that tested the limits of Tamsyn and Vanessa's wee house). Everyone brought delicious food which included three chickens, potato salad, various pasta dishes, vegetarian sausages, lots of delish nibbles plus strawberries soaked in wine, served with icecream for dessert. There was an enormous amount of food and this morning's hungover leftovers breakfast was indeed epic and, I feel, very adequate payment for having to clean up the flat which looked like a decadent sort of bomb site.

As a new experience I got to try some apple flavoured tobacco out of a hookah pipe. It was surprisingly smooth and quite delicious, and many present who didn't normally smoke felt the urge to try a few puffs and immediately enjoyed it.

And. And! I received a delicious bottle of gin from Andy and Tamara for designing their wedding invitations, as well as a bottle of whiskey from Craig and Sarah as a thankyou gift for MCing at their wedding. Truly it rained alcohol from the sky. Needless to say I got very drunk. I was quite relieved to discover that I'd only used half the bottle of 12 year old scotch after sharing a tipple with all the whiskey drinkers present. Still, good whiskey should be shared.

In summary I had a brilliant night, spent with those I consider to be family. We even managed to stagger into town at 11.30 and catch the tail end of the countdown (we would have gotten there 5 minutes beforehand but SOMEONE had to make a toilet stop).

Good start to 2011 all in all. Well done everyone, jolly good show.
