More specifically I thought I'd go into more detail about the kinds of toys I collect, which is generally known as the Classics line of transformers, even though Hasbro and Takara have labelled them under various titles including Classics, Universe and Reveal The Shield.
What I love the most about classics transformers is that they're basically reimagined figures based on the old 1985 cartoon. They're toys that look how my 5 year old imagination thought they did at the time, how they should have looked if the technology was available.
EXAMPLE THE FIRST. And this is a little extreme since the original character was a very simplified 'mini' transformer with even less articulation than standard... but meet Warpath.
This is how he looked back in the day. I had Warpath as a kid and he was one of my favourite mini transformers. I remember wishing the toy was big like how he appeared in the cartoon.
And this is how he's been redesigned for 2011. If you know the character, you can tell it's the same robot. And just look at that badass. But then there's the remake, and just look at him! Fully posable, articulated joints and looks very faithful to the original cartoon character. More so than the above toy in fact, since you know. He has knees.

Yeah they are pretty awesome but I gave the new Bumblebee to my 9 year-old nephew and then had to spend 45 minutes with the instructions trying to figure out how to transform the bastard. I think we lost a turbo-thruster to the dog as well.
I miss the simplicity of the originals, didn't have to worry about losing bits or breaking them.
