Shut It Down

Livejournal has become the equivalent of the trusty old golden retriever that one grew up with but now wees on the carpet while you look on tolerantly. Yes, I have many happy memories frolicking with it through green pastures, but now it just sort of sits there on the rug, looking depressed and smelling vaguely like damp socks. It would be a kindness to take the old fella out back, give it one last pat, gaze lovingly into its trusting eyes then blow it away with a .44 magnum.

Tonight I went through and unsubscribed from the handful of RSS feeds that were still operating on my LJ friends page, trimmed a bunch of old info and contacts, and otherwise tidied it up before closing the door. And, uh... I guess that's it. Seems kinda untidy to just leave it there, but the stupid exporting function only lets me get a month worth of entries at a time, and there's still one or two people that I'm yet to catch up with in greener social networking pastures.

So here's to you Livejournal. You were my early twenties online diary. I made people laugh, I made people mad and I made some friends that I'm still reading today. I think I'll read what they're up to now in fact.
