Big Badda Boom

Last night was loooooovely. We had five (FIVE! AHH AHH AHH! *thunder roll*) friends over for a pot luck dinner which was sliiiightly cramped but not really all that bad in our somewhat small lounge. Cosy, let us call it. There was delicious pate on rice crackers for starters, then roast lamb, roast spuds and salad for main course, followed by strawberries, panna cotta and lemon cake for dessert. Delish!

My blood sugar is still annoyingly high so I contented myself with a few strawberries and a tiny nibble of Tamsyn's cake (phwoar) for dessert. (I'm on the low carb breakfasts at the moment too. Bacon and eggs is delicious but I'll probably get tired of it fairly quickly.)

Anyhoo, we all piled into town for the Official Fireworks™ and were not disappointed. Strategically we placed ourselves around the harbour towards Te Papa so as to avoid any obnoxious radio music (last year they finished the fireworks with Katie Perry...) and also so I could find myself somewhere to sit. And so perched upon a glowing spherical thing I watched teenagers let off those wizzy spinning things at unsuspecting passers by. I also got some attention of my own after lighting up a Six Sparkler Bundle Combo which briefly created a miniature sun on the end of a stick. Good times.

The display itself was amazing, of course. Just as good as last year. We all stood there entranced at the big flashy Hollywood-esque display in the air and made commentary upon our particular favourites. And then it was over and we strolled (or hobbled) down towards some food carts to have a Sausage Of Regret before heading home for cups of tea.

Eeeever so slightly marred by my foot giving out on the hobble back, but on the up side we ran into Tamsyns folks outside the Michael Fowler center while waiting for a cab. So that's okay.

All in all an excellent night. A++ would eat food and blow things up with friends again.
