The US election has totally ruined me for New Zealand politics. The whole thing just seems drab and lifeless by comparison. We have no Barack Obama stirring up the masses with brilliant oratory, no lurching, zombie like McCain stumbling around the stage, no totally pointless but really flashy CNN holograms to oooh and aaah over.
No, we just have snide John Key and bullish Aunty Helen and a media that pretends our MMP system doesn't really exist. None of our poltical parties are inspiring. None of them make me think they're going to make New Zealand a better place. None of them make me want to care.
I'll be voting Green this year, for reasons best outlined here. Looks like a lot of my friends are going the same direction this year; probably a lot of people pissed off with Labour but wanting to vote Left.
Still, I imagine National will end up getting in. I for one will not be welcoming our new overlords.
