Slightly Ranty

At last night's end of school year/election party I encountered two National supporters. One was intelligent and basically voted to support business owners who would, in her mind, help boost the economy and create new jobs due to lower taxes. Her focus was the economy and she voted for the party she thought more likely to get things moving again.

The other was a complete idiot who only voted National because she was 'loyal' to the party and thought John Key was in some ethereal way 'cooler' than Helen Clark.

Inevitably, it was the ignoramus who was the most aggressive in her views, babbling on about National were sticking it to Labour, and so on. I asked her what National's policies were. She couldn't tell me. Being somewhat intoxicated, I suggested that blindly voting for a party you know nothing about was something I would expect from the lowest of amoebic lifeforms who cling to rocks and gain nutrients from other bacteria. She took this assertion less than calmly.

To all you people out there who voted because you didn't know who else to vote for, or because you liked the look of your candidate's suit, or because your parents told you the other lot were communists, terrorists, Nazis or Jews, thanks. You have the government you deserve.
