Star Trek: Watched. OH AND SPOILERS.

Contains spoilers, yo. In case you haven't watched it yet.

So yeah, went to see Star Trek last night, and pretty much loved it. It definitely felt like Star Trek, with that right mix of optimism, goofiness, action and cool character interaction that I relate with the show. The presence of Old Spock definitely helped tie the reboot in with the original timeline.

I guess my two main gripes would be that firstly, it felt quite rushed, like this was the edited down version of a better, less frantically paced movie, one that we'll get to see in a director's cut DVD version.

And the second is that holy shit Kirk is even more of an unlikeable douchebag than the version Shatner portrayed. The scene where he has to socially manipulate Young Spock into losing his rag by bringing up his dead mother and nearly extinct race? He doesn't even show a shred of remorse for doing that to the guy. The fact that Young Spock seems to so readily forgive him makes him the more intriguing character by far, and really I think he was the star of the show over Kirk by a long way.
