Catalysty

AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA. SCREW YOU CSS.

Yes, I know that some of you think Flash is crap, and I respect that. I do. Also, Steve Jobs, who makes things that I love, or at least makes things that I say I love to get them into bed*, also hates Flash and is determinedly trying to keep it off anything that isn't an actual apple computer.

But despite this, I would like to talk some more about how much Adobe Flash Catalyst gets me all excited and tingly in my design bits. BECAUSE I HATE CODE. I tried dedicating time to learning CSS web coding, and it sucks. My brain switches off just like it did during highschool maths class, and I end up doodling zebras in superhero capes or giant camels shooting laser beams from their nostrils onto an unsuspecting Tokyo.

But. But! Along comes Catalyst, and is all like 'hey Dan, would you like to make neat looking web things without any code whatsoever?' And I'm all like 'hells yes I would!' And the thing is, the important thing here to my mind is, even if Flash does end up on the scrap pile in 5 years time thanks to Jobs and other haters, this sets a precedent as a program. Designers aren't programmers, and why should we have to be? I didn't have to learn code to make digital illustrations or manipulate photos or create fancy typography. Interactive content shouldn't be any different.

Yeah that's right, I came out and said it.

Also, I am going through a whole bunch of webpage tutorials in Photoshop, to prepare for Catalyst in advance and also to get my interactive composition skills down and maybe add a couple of fancy looking pages to my portfolio.

*Gratuitously ripped off from Terry Pratchet describing dwarves and gold. Also, I wouldn't really sleep with an iphone. I don't have the right adaptors.
