Pew Pew!

Last night I went to the wellington small bore rifle association with Tamsyn, Jarrod, Steph, Craig and Sarah. It was the second time for Tamsyn and I, who immediately put on fake pro airs and showed the others around ("over here... is a desk"). After a 5 minute gun safety talk, we signed up to the rounds list and basically had to wait for the next hour, since we were unlucky enough to have shown up on a really busy competition night.

The club itself had their own building, and both Jarrod and myself recognised the old familiar club hall resonance that you become attuned to after many, many years of being a geek. Most of our LARPs, wargame and roleplaying conventions and other nerdy gatherings had taken place in such buildings over the years, and this place could just as easily have had a few dozen beardy nerds standing about the neatly rowed tables, gazing down at painted miniatures and scenery instead of lovingly assembled sports rifles.

Result of the evening was that the two resident snipers Steph and Tamsyn won the two rounds respectively (resident beardy coach: 'geez guys, you let down the side, hur hur, because your penis should make you a better shot is what I'm saying! I'm so alone... sob...'), though I did my part as a helpful boyfriend by putting a bullet nicely close to the bullseye of one of Tamsyn's targets. Aren't I nice? It was an enjoyable night, though I think if we'd managed to get through the two rounds faster, it would have been more successful. Still though, I now want to see what other interesting local clubs I can drag some friends along to.

Next week: combative flower arranging.
