It was really fascinating being part of the huge energy build up that happened right before we met our mentee's; talking with all the other mentors and experiencing the varying levels of nerves followed by the huge, relieved backwash of adrenalin that happened afterwards. We debriefed in one of the side rooms in a big group and several people got attacks of the giggles while we talked.
We get given a small allowance by the program to use for taking our kids out and finding interesting things to do around town, so near the top of my to do list is sit down with my mentee over camp and see whether he'd rather we do a weekly activity that is reasonably priced, or save the money up (as I've heard some people have done in the past) and blow it at the end of the year on something epic like a plane or ferry ride somewhere cool, or massive sugar binge that leaves us waking up groggy in Mexico, wearing police uniforms and wondering what the hell happened.

In other news, work has given me more hours, and for a while I shall be in the office a mighty four days a week, working on a 160 page booklet of doom plus my usual magazine job. ALSO Craig is throwing me freelance jobs as they become available through an old employer of his, ALSO the freelance cartoon people (remember them?) have gotten in touch with me, and further steps towards a final book deal are being taken. This plus mentoring plus a social life plus spending quality time with the ever amazing Tamsyn plus Thursday night gaming means I'm run off my feet and I love it. Beats having nothing to do any day of the week.
