To Recap (part 1)

Welp, it's 2012 and this blog's been neglected like a forlorn old badger in the back of the garden for too long. So let's get this party started.

When last we left our hero...

I've been pain meds free for many weeks now, and enjoyed a clear head for a while. I marvelled at my ability to not walk into stationary objects and how I could think all kinds of things without saying them. Amazing stuff.  And then my constantly high blood sugar, caused by the foot injury, caught up with me and I was rocking the fuzzy head, mood swings and zoning out like afternoon maths class.

A visit to the doctor resulted in stronger doses of metformin... which worked, also causing nausea, stomach cramps and, uh, extended periods of peaceful reading in a small room, blessedly equipped with an extractor fan. Some experimenting and several miserable days later, I think I've found a balance of spacing the medication throughout the day so that my blood sugar levels stay right without the side effects.

My toes, probably in fear for their damn lives after all this, are quietly behaving themselves. I was given these cute little protective tubes to put on them when out and about, which let me wear my normal boots. I've been for a couple of walks now with a walking stick, sometimes using it for balance, other times just having it on hand to smite the ungodly or pretend it's a laser rifle when I think nobody is watching.

In other, much more interesting news, Tamsyn and I are getting our own place! We move into the new flat at the end of this month! Just look at all these exclamation marks! It's by the bush in the Brooklyn hills, reasonably close to the local shops and cheap enough to make saving up for... things... pretty easy. I'm hugely looking forward to renting our own place. Being able to make breakfast wearing nothing but an apron to protect the sensitive regions is something I could technically do right now, but I feel the resulting counselling bills from my flatmate would dampen the experience.

That's all for now. Watch this space, I feel it coming alive once again. Happy 2012 everyone.
