I was going to try and recount everything in a linear fashion, but frankly that was boring the crap out of me trying to get it all down, and it was sounding like some kind of school report. So instead you get a stream of consciousness rambling about the whole weekend as it comes to me.
PLANE RIDES! Going there: a bit bumpy and I felt slightly sick but all good. We circled around Hamilton airport for a bit but then made it down safely. Getting back: much smoother right up until the descent into Wellington, but that's pretty normal really for the windy capital. Amazing view out over the hills and valleys as we came in.
TAMSYN! It was really awesome seeing her wrap my folks round her little finger. They like her quite a bit, and I believe she had a great time over the weekend, meeting more friends and getting to know some of the family. Mum rang me up on Sunday and said that her and Dad thought Tamsyn was quite wonderful, so that made me grin hugely. Totally awesome going up there with her.
FRIENDS! Holy crap, it was like the last ten years never happened. Pretty much the whole group were there, plus assorted blasts from the past that I hadn't seen in aaaaaages. Really good catchups were had with some excellent people. We all caught up at Calum's place for a BBQ before heading over to the party. There was good food and also cake. Yay cake!
FAMILY! I saw more family members over the last 48 hours than I have over the last year. Friday morning was brunch at the Speights Ale House, and various extended family people were in attendance, including Gran who is steadily shrinking down to roughly knee height and shared some interesting stories about Wellington in the 40s. The food was amazing, plus I got all fancy and bought us a bottle of nice red wine which complimented the delicious things.
PARTY! Epic bogan party was epic. There was easily over a hundred revelers present, a huge assortment of people, from goths to 90s metallers and more modern looking bogan kids and everything else. The atmosphere was surprisingly laid back and as far as I'm aware everyone behaved themselves admirably. Various bands played of variable quality, though the Primus tribute bunch stood out to me as being pretty good.
...I even saw That Guy who only shows up at parties when I'm massively inebriated and who saw fit to do so again eight years after I'd previously seen him at a Hamilton party. I think he recognised me, but it's hard to say.
FINAL SCORE! A++, would fly up and party with friends again. Had a really lovely time catching up with the old group and assorted others, and feel like I've earned my raging hangover.
